Why intimate hygiene is important

An interview with Dr. med. Volker Wedler

Why is care of the intimate area so important?

Our intimate area is not only a part of the body consisting of skin and mucous membranes, but it also contains a complex network of blood vessels and nerve fibers.

In addition to the biological functionality for reproduction, the individual needs of women and men are reflected in them. Particularly in the intimate area, a strong microbacterial colonization is evident. Intact conditions are the first barrier to impending infections.

The body’s own protection and care mechanisms need external support, which has led us to develop “INTIMI”.

Where is care needed?

Women:

The internal vagina is self-cleaning. The labia majora and minora, the clitoris area, the perineum and the external anus need a soothing, regenerative break after gentle washing.

Men:

The glans penis, penis shaft, scrotum, perineum and anus need a lot of attention after daily hygiene.

What do our intimate areas mean for us?

We connect with them: individuality, gentleness, closeness, privacy, passion, tenderness, trust, concealment, sexuality, warmth, contemplation, security, comfort and much more.

The intimate areas are not only purely anatomical structures, but also in harmony with psychic processes.

What kind of stress are our intimate areas exposed to?

There are multiple reasons such as friction, pressure and unnoticed carelessness that lead to an imbalance in the intimate area. In this context, the main focus is on: too aggressive body care, intimate shave, waxing, everyday intensive movements, sports activities, long sitting, intensive sexual stress, using of sex-toys, hormonal changes, aggressive shower products, after healed infections.
